Everything you need to know before you arrive
About Monroe, WA
For brothers and families traveling to the Northwest Regional Ijtema, Monroe is more than a convenient place to stay. It is the small Pacific Northwest city that will host our gathering, our prayers, our competitions, and our time together.
Monroe is a historic city in southern Snohomish County, scenically set against the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Located near where the Snoqualmie and Skykomish Rivers join to form the Snohomish River, Monroe sits at the meeting point of US-2, State Route 203, and State Route 522, making it a natural gateway between the greater Seattle area, the Skykomish Valley, Stevens Pass, and the Cascade foothills.
The city's story is rooted in movement, work, and community: early settlement, logging, railroads, farming, and dairy. In the 1890s, the arrival of the Great Northern Railway helped shift the town toward the rail line and strengthened Monroe's role as a local center for commerce and transportation.

A City with Local Memory
As logging declined, agriculture and dairy became increasingly important to Monroe's identity. In 1908, local dairy farms began supplying milk to Monroe's Carnation Milk condensery, connecting the city to one of Washington's best-known dairy brands. The Carnation Condensery Smokestack remains a visible landmark from that era — a reminder that even a small city carries a long story if you pause long enough to notice it.
Today, Monroe combines small-town hospitality with Pacific Northwest scenery and convenient access to nature. Visitors will find a historic downtown, local dining and shops, nearby parks and river valleys, the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Evergreen Speedway, and easy access to the Cascade foothills.
We hope guests use their time in Monroe not only for lodging and travel, but also to appreciate the place that is welcoming us for this year's Ijtema.
